September 22nd, the Oratory Prep JV soccer team traveled to Scotch Plains to take on Union Catholic away for a very close game. The JV team’s highlights include a very stacked and strong defense ready for the toughest competition, and Michael Koomar in goal always getting the team out of tricky situations. The team runs a spread offense skilled at sending through balls to get other teammates on goal, or stringing passes around the opposition. Today, the game started out in the first half with a free kick by Nick Toscano. Toscano takes the majority of the team’s free kicks and even scored off of one in the previous game. Nick’s free kick today bounced around all over the goalie box resulting in a swarm of players kicking and going after the ball desperate for a goal. Through all the chaos a handball from Union Catholic emerged resulting in an Oratory penalty kick from Kyle Klaschka. Kyle struck the ball into the bottom corner with the goalie diving in the opposite direction resulting in a goal to put the Rams up 1-0. Unfortunately, in the second half Union Catholic came out tough and scored two goals to beat Oratory with a score of 2-1. The JV team’s next game is Saturday, September 27, home vs. Cranford, and they are eager for a victory.
