Student of the Week: Adam Lewis

Nick Browne, Staff Writer

Adam Lewis, a sophomore legend, can be found doing a variety of different activities all around Oratory. You may spot him eating a muffin in the cafeteria every day, or perhaps you see him leading the cross country team running laps. He came to Oratory as a freshman and has begun to make his mark in just two years here. He is one of our strongest runners, and he stands out in the academic field as well. I had the privilege to sit down with Adam and ask him all about his life and time at Oratory. Here are my recordings:

Tell us about yourself (where you’re from, siblings, any superpowers):

I’m from Bernardsville, NJ. I have one sister (Meghan a freshman at Holy Cross) and I have the superpower to charm Nick Browne.

What made you want to join Cross Country?

I decided to join Cross Country because Doug Degolyer did it, and I wanted to be like him. Also, I wanted to get yelled at by Mac Hutchinson… But seriously, Cross Country is a great way to get in shape and improve yourself mentally and physically. Plus,  you get to admire the tandem bike duo of Scotto and McCrystal.

How is the work load different as a sophomore than it was as a freshman?

There really isn’t much of a difference with the workload besides the amount of writing that we have to do for more of the classes. But it isn’t that bad so far.

On a scale of 1-100 how much do you miss Mrs. Acquadro’s freshman Bio class?

Greatest class ever. 167. #BoppFoundationofAmos

Are you involved in any clubs? If you are can you explain them?

Yes, I am involved in the Sports Enthusiasts Club (SEC), the History Club, and FED Challenge. For SEC, we discuss topics and write articles based on a variety of sports. Also, another cool thing we do is attend some sporting events like MLU (Major League Ultimate) games. And you get to listen to Mr. Scotto’s rant on how good the Browns are. For History Club, we discuss current events and certain historical topics. The co-presidents of the club are Matt Muoio and Chris Hutchinson. For FED Challenge, members analyze current economic situations and learn about monetary policy.

Pick 2 celebrities to be your parents.

Father: James Franco

Mother: Ellen Degeneres

What was your favorite memory from your time spent at Oratory?

Four words…Freshman Basketball Team Ringworm.

What has been your favorite class so far?

Toss up between US History I Honors with Mr. McCrystal and Biology Honors with Mrs. Acquadro. US History is fun because we get to listen to debates on mascots and colonies, not to mention the random Simpsons references. For Biology, asking Mrs. Acquadro if she had to save either Matthew Bopp or Amos if both people were hanging off a cliff which would she choose made the class even more intriguing,

What do you think about when you are day dreaming in Math class?

Mostly Chick-Fil-A… Sinking my teeth into those chicken strips.

As you can see, Adam Lewis is one of the unique students at Oratory and brings a lot to the table. He is involved, athletic, and is always telling jokes to lighten the mood. If you ever see him walking around the halls of Oratory, make sure to say hello.  It will probably be worth your while.
