LS Basketball Weekly update

The Lower School Varsity team had a great week. They went 3-1 from Tuesday the 7th to Tuesday the 14th. They blew out Far Hills on the 7th 52-32 (see https://www.oratoryprepomega.org/2015/01/08/lower-school-basketball-dominates-far-hills/).

Two days after the win they dropped a tough 15 point loss to Peck. Peck dominated the boards and had phenomenal defense to beat the Rams. This did not bring the Rams’ spirit down because the day after they had to play a tough Roselle Park team. Roselle Park was a physical team and a tough one. In the 4th quarter the Rams held a 14 point lead. This is when Roselle Park caught on fire in about a five minute drought where the Rams were outscored 11-0. This made for a 3 point game with 3 minutes left. When it seemed time for an impending basket from Roselle Park, the defense caused a turnover and hit John Martin on the elbow for a 3 pointer. From that point the Rams won by 9 with great defense and terrific work on the boards. On Tuesday the Rams had a grudge match against Newark Academy, which was one of last year’s few losses. In the first quarter Newark Academy rolled out to a 10 point lead. Following an Oratory timeout Will Smart, John Martin, and Andrea Fiorenza shot that 10 point lead down. The rest of the game was a back and forth game; however, late in the 4th quarter with a 4 point lead Will Smart hit a layup and the foul to help sink the Colonials 63-57. Oratory’s leading scorer was Will Smart with 30 points and an amazing stretch of games. The Rams overall record is 4-2, and they still have a lot more games. Come out and support the team.
