OP Heartbreak Against Newark Academy
February 13, 2015
Tuesday, the OP Basketball Team suffered one of its toughest losses of the season. In true heartbreak fashion, the Rams were defeated at the hands of Newark Academy. After losing to NA earlier this year by a slim margin, Junior Matt Davis described the team as “starving for revenge”. While the Rams led by seven at the end of the third, they were outscored by nine in the fourth quarter to fall 44-42. Nick Martino of NA hit a three in the waning seconds to give the Minutemen the edge over our beloved Rams. It was an all around team effort, with Roland Whitley scoring 17 and Austin Lee and Jack Skinner adding six. Falling to 9-7 now, the boys hope to break their slump and peak right around the county and state tournament.
For now, the team looks to rebound this Friday in the first round of the Union County Tournament. Facing higher seeded Union, the Rams are pitted as underdogs, and the support of the student body could not mean enough. Come out to the games and get rowdy, the team surely appreciates the help.
