Featured Baller: Andrew Lee
February 20, 2015
Andrew Lee has been one of the key contributors to Oratory Basketball for the past three years. Beginning as a freshman on varsity, Andrew has steadily improved, and is now poised for a breakout year as a junior. I recently spoke with him about the success of the team, and his thoughts on the bright future:
You’ve been with the team since your freshman year. How has the program grown and improved as the years have gone by?
I think the program has grown stronger and stronger every year. I think this is because our bench is so deep. The starters do a great job taking care of business, but it helps knowing they have a strong supporting cast.
How is Coach Daugherty doing so far in his new role as varsity head coach?
Coach is doing a really great job with us. Honestly, our record right now does not do the job he has done justice. He expects the most out of us everyday in practice and we try our best to live up to his expectations.
What does the team need to improve on heading into playoff season?
I think we need to improve on our rebounding. We are a bit undersized in the paint, so we really need to hit the glass if we want to reach our goals. Also, we need improve our ability to score, we can’t win games scoring only 33 points. (Oratory lost 48-33 to Governor Livingston).
What would you say is your favorite moment in your three years of OP Basketball?
Well it’s tough to say up until this point, but I’m thinking it’s going to be when we beat Roselle Park next week to win the conference championship.
What do you think of our chances in the state tournament?
There’s a lot of tough competition. Like, a lot a lot. That said, I think we can most definitely win a few games and make a run.
On and off the court, Andrew is well liked and fun to be around. Fellow Junior guard Brendan Lawlor described Andrew as “the hardest worker on the team no question”. Hopefully Andrew has continued success and can help the Rams to a strong year.
