Middle School Basketball
November 27, 2015
This week, I decided to give the OP community an inside look on the middle school basketball team. The only problem is, I’m not on the team. So, I went to some of my classmates and asked them for their thoughts on the team. Ben Landis stated “Basketball is very fun at Oratory. I think the team will do well because of the great coaching skills of coach Kaounis and coach Scotto. We are strong as a team and I expect a winning record.” Anthony Corragio commented “Basketball is a good way to socialize with your classmates outside of the classroom while doing a fun activity. We all enjoy the practices, and have a lot of fun.” Matt Torrisi told me, “We work together. Plain and simple. We all know some of us are better than others; you can call me up and tell me a Prius drove fast before you can say Doug missed a free throw. We know this, but frankly, we don’t care. We all treat each other as equals, all one team with one common goal: show what it means to be a Ram (and maybe have some fun along the line). This is our team, not mine, Doug’s, Jason’s, or Robert’s. All that really explains what was originally stated, that we work together. I tried being poetic.” Well said Matt, well said. In addition, Jason Cevallos had this to say: “The basketball team is very fun, we all know one another which makes us communicate a lot more. I really like the team, and I am very happy with my teammates.” Patrick Windels added, “So far, the team is looking pretty good. We know what we are doing and get along. I can tell because of the way we work together at practice. The season is looking pretty good for us. We have a lot of good players and since we work well together and have great coaches we will be very good.” He also added “Basketball is fun. Actually, basketball is fun. Fun is basketball.” I also talked to James Boylan, who has a special point of view as he is a seventh grader on a team dominated by eighth graders. He stated “We always know that coach has got our back even if we do something wrong. He’s right there to help us fix it, he knows how to work with all of us and he knows how to make every single player on the team play at the best level possible.” And finally, I talked with Devraj Duttagupta, who, seeing as he just moved he from Great Britain, has never been on a basketball team before. These are his first impressions “My first experience in basketball was great and I really enjoyed it. I still need to improve my tackling and my dribbling with the ball. I am getting help from Jason and he is going to share some skills with me and how to play basketball. I really enjoy the experience of a taste of basketball.” I’m very excited for this year’s middle school basketball season, as I hope you all are.
