Conversing with Kellam
January 2, 2016
Recently, I interviewed Paul Kellam, a junior at Oratory Prep, and asked him a few questions.
What activities/sports are you involved in at Oratory?
“I play baseball and hockey for OP. I am also involved in the SEC, the Omega – as you know – and I am starting an investment club at the school.”
How is Oratory’s hockey team doing?
“Oratory’s hockey team just won their second game. There have been several close games and there have been signs of potential for the predominantly young team. But there is still time left in the season for the team to make states.”
In the three years you have been at Oratory, who would is your favorite teacher and why?
“Most of the teachers at OP are fantastic, but I would say that Mr. Martin is my favorite teacher. He is able to integrate relevant topics to a wide variety of subjects, including history, economics, law, and government. Mr. Martin is very organized and willing to help out with flexible hours. Like most classes in OP, the group work in my history class with Mr. Martin has taught me to be a leader and take initiative.”
With the variety of classes offered at Oratory, which class has been your favorite?
“My favorite class I’ve ever taken would have to be public speaking. It has paved a pathway to success for me and I was able to realize that I had a real talent in speaking to a crowd.”
“Who do you think will win the NCAA basketball championship this year and why?
I believe Michigan State will take the championship away. Sometimes the most obvious answer is the right one, and in this case there isn’t much to dislike about the Spartans. This is a team that is led by one of the premier guards in the NCAA (Denzel Valentine) and features some capable big men and second scoring option Bryn Forbes – not to mention they also have a great coach in Tom Izzo. March is still far away and a lot can happen, but there is no denying that Michigan State has all the pieces to get it done.”
