Legends of Tomorrow Episode Three Recap (Spoilers)
February 16, 2016
The most recent episode of Legends of Tomorrow was certainly fun to watch. At the start of episode three, the gang is still stuck in 1975 because there is once again someone on board who is too injured to time jump. That person is Kendra, a.k.a Hawkgirl.
After her recent encounter with Vandal Savage, there are pieces of a knife floating through her bloodstream, moving slowly towards her heart. The two on-board scientists, Ray and Dr. Stein, get to work trying to remove the pieces while simultaneously dealing with the drama between the two of them. It is interesting to watch, but it gets kind of repetitive, so we’re going to forget about them for now. Meanwhile, Jax is repairing the small expedition ship aboard the main ship, the Waverider. He is soon “hijacked” by his teammates, Leonard and Mick. They convince him to fly to Central City in order to steal the monster-sized Maximillian Emerald. This plays out into a rather interesting story line. They steal the Emerald, but Leonard insists there is one more stop. He takes the Emerald and goes into his childhood home to drop it off. His motivation? Two days after that night, his father is arrested and jailed for five years after attempting to steal it. Not only did little Leonard lose his dad for five years, but when he came back, he was an abusive man. So, Leonard tries to fix the situation with his family, risking his very existence so that an alternate young Leonard Snart can keep his father.
While this is very touching and shows the true colors of Snart (Captain Cold), alas, his father is arrested two days later anyway. Meanwhile, Rip and Sara get caught up in a big conspiracy. They go to the bank, where Gideon informs them the bank is where Savage keeps his fortunes in an attempt to weaken Savage by making his pockets a little lighter. But, nothing in the bank is as it seems, as predicted by Sara. All the employees attack them, and with Rip being without a weapon, it’s all up to Sara. This leads to a pretty epic scene of Sara utterly demolishing everyone, and sets up the story line of her need to control the blood lust left inside her after she was resurrected on the show Arrow. They soon journey to a fancy gathering where in the backrooms, Savage and his faithful followers are about to take the blood from the late Carter’s body so that Savage’s followers can have a “taste of immortality,” meaning they get to live an extra couple hundred years.
Rip and Sara are eventually captured; Kendra (after being saved by Ray and Stein,) senses this and alerts the team. Jax, Snart, and Mick quickly join Savage’s party, and chaos ensues. Savage is killed by Rip, but not before finding out Rip’s childhood name so he can personally hunt them down when he heals. The episode concludes with something that was utterly missing from the last episode: Carter’s funeral. It’s a very serene moment that feels well place after the episodes of explosions, jewel thievery, and huge brawls. And with that, the team heads off to 1986 in hopes of completing their mission.
