NBA All-Star Weekend Recap
February 17, 2016
This NBA All-Star Weekend, hosted by the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Center, was definitely one to remember. In the three point contest, Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors beat his teammate, Stephen Curry, to win the contest. Surprisingly, Karl Anthony Towns, center of the Minnesota Timberwolves, won the Skills Competition, a competition where point guards usually end as the victor.
The 2016 NBA Dunk Contest was another unforgettable event that people have designated as the best of all time! Zach LaVine of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Aaron Gordon of the Orlando Magic put on a show with their spectacular dunks. LaVine did a windmill dunk from the free throw line as well as a spectacular behind the back, one-handed reverse dunk. Gordon also amazed the audience with a series of dunks over the Magic mascot, who was standing on a hoverboard, as pictured. In the end, LaVine was able to defend his title as back-to-back winner of the NBA Dunk Contest in a very close match.
The grand finale to top off the All-Star Weekend was the 65th Annual All-Star Game. The West All Stars were victorious with a 196 – 173 victory. We saw some new faces in this contest as well as an old one playing in his last game. The first-time all star selection, Andre Drummond, played very well, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Paul George was the leading scorer of the night with 41 points! Also, we saw Kobe Bryant put on an all star jersey for the last time. He had a decent game with 10 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Russell Westbrook was crowned MVP for scoring 31 points, grabbing 5 steals, dishing out 5 assists, and grabbing 8 rebounds. This All-Star weekend was a great one and hopefully is even better next year!
