The MLS Kicks Off

John Abili, Staff Writer

The MLS kicked off on March 6th with every team playing on the same day.

There were ceremonies in New Jersey and Portland as the New York Red Bulls presented their supporters’ shield (best regular season record) and the Portland Timbers showed off their MLS Cup. The Red Bulls faced Toronto in the first game of the season, taking a 2-0 loss. Orlando completed a two-goal comeback to tie with Real Salt Lake. Both of Orlando’s goals came in the 90th minute. NYCFC got off to a good start by beating Chicago 4-3. Portland started their defence of the cup superbly by beating Columbus 2-1 in a rematch of last year’s final. L.A. Galaxy came back from a 1-0 deficit to beat D.C. United 4-1. With 35 goals in the first ten games, the MLS looks to be more exciting than ever this season.
