Lacrosse Preseason Recap

Mark Miyashiro, Staff Writer

It all began on March 4th, when the spring sports teams entered the gym at 2:50 PM in order to get their gear and be lectured by Allan. After getting their gear and continuing outside to run their first run of the season, the team was ready. And after a week of practice, the first scrimmage was upon them.

Saturday March 12th: Tri-Scrimmage with Newark Academy and Sparta

The team arrived at Newark Academy at around 9:15 a.m. with their first game at 10. The team would go on to beat Newark Academy 7-4 and secure their first preseason win. However, Sparta’s team proved too be a formidable opponent and shut down the Rams 8-2. The team looked to bounce back as they had a practice Sunday and another tri-scrimmage Monday.

Monday March 14th: Tri-Scrimmage with Caldwell and Morris Knolls

It was a rainy day in Denville, NJ. The team was given a treat with the coach bus for a 30-minute ride to Morris Knolls. After warming up on a geese poop-filled field, the team made their way down to the turf to play their first game against Caldwell. After starting flat in the first half, the team ended up losing the game 7-3 but the second half was held to a one goal standoff. The second game that was against Morris Knolls opened up with a very strong first half with the score going into the half at 6-1. However, Morris Knolls pulled off a strong comeback in the last part of the second half in order to win the game 7-6.

Oratory is looking very strong as the preseason comes to a close and the team goes to Florida this week. Overall, this season is looking very promising for the up-and-coming Oratory lacrosse team.
