Apple’s New Tech – Worth the Upgrade?
September 26, 2016
Multiple reviews for Apple’s new iPhone 7 and Apple Watch have surfaced and the verdict is… okay.
Let’s start with the iPhone 7. The iPhone 7, priced at $649-$749, comes in two new colors, Jet Black and Black, along with the old colors. Despite how identical it looks to the iPhone 6 and 6S, the 7 is water resistant, has a faster processor, an all new camera, 1-2 hours longer in battery life (depending on which model you get), and its most controversial feature, NO HEADPHONE JACK. It is instead replaced with another speaker and comes with lighting adapter earpods and a dongle to convert the lightning port to a 3.5mm headphone jack, just in case you still want to use your old headphones. Apple has also created the new Air Pods which are wireless headphones that cost an arm and a leg. Retail price for these headphones is $160 which, I think, is overpriced for “standard” wireless headphones. Basically, the 7, is a faster and better iPhone 6, that’s also water resistant, with no headphone jack.
The Apple Watch, priced at $369-$399, is also identical to the first watch in looks. The only major changes is that it is completely waterproof, faster than the first one, and has GPS. The real question here is whether or not you should upgrade. If you have the 6 or 6S, I would stick to them. Unless you want a phone that could be used in the rain and has a better camera and processor. It’s just not worth the 600+ dollars for some minor changes with the same look and the same goes for the Apple Watch. However, if you feel like you need a change or upgrade, go for it and spend the cash.
