Kevin “The Big Ticket” Garnett
September 27, 2016
Just as Kobe did last season, Kevin Garnett has announced his retirement from the game of basketball. On Friday, Garnett posted a video on Instagram that showed him saying how thankful and blessed he was to have been a part of the NBA. The video then ends with a “Farewell” and “Thank You For the Journey”. Garnett entered the league straight out of high school, at the age of 19 years old, and was – at the time – the youngest player in NBA history. He is now 40 years old and has played a great 21 seasons. Overall, Kevin Garnett was selected to 15 All-Star Games, won the MVP award in 2004, won the All-Star Game MVP in 2003, won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2008, won four rebounding titles, set the Timberwolves’ all-time scoring record, and won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. As you can see, Garnett has accomplished many great things over his career.
Now, this may not seem like a big deal because most people are involved with Fantasy Football right now. However, Kevin Garnett was and is a big part of the game. He is a basketball legend, and a future hall of famer because of the exciting games he has played.
Garnett, Allen, and Pierce were the “Big Three” back in their Celtic days. They dominated the game and even won an NBA championship. One of Garnett’s most notable and funny videos is when he won the championship game and started to scream, “Anything is Possible!”. Many of you might recognize this from a Key and Peele skit, which is also funny. I would just like to inform those who don’t know, that the Key and Peele skit was a spoof of the Garnett speech.
Garnett’s career is just as impressive as Kobe’s. Some would even argue that Garnett is the better player, but I think we all know that Kobe is the GOAT. Overall, Kevin Garnett had a great career, has earned the “legend” status, and will definitely be missed by many.
