NFL Week 6 Recap
October 23, 2016
Week 6 of the NFL season featured an exciting slate of matches. The Chargers slogged through a rough Thursday Night Football match to pick up the victory. Sunday’s winners were the Redskins, Dolphins, Jaguars, Titans, Patriots, Bills, Giants, Lions, Saints, Chiefs, Cowboys, and Seahawks. The Texans triumphed over the Colts in overtime in the Sunday Night Football matchup. The Jets could not find momentum as they fell to the Cardinals on Monday Night Football.
There were many players who had great games in their teams’ victories during week 6. Matt Jones ran for 135 yards and a touchdown as the Redskins topped the Eagles 27-20. Jay Ajayi ran straight through the Steelers’ defense on Sunday, accruing 204 rushing yards and two touchdowns as the Dolphins stunned the Steelers 30-15. Marcus Mariota (Tennessee) threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-26 victory over the Browns. However, the Browns still had a silver lining, as Cody Kessler threw for 336 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Rob Gronkowski established his spot as one of the top tight ends in the NFL with a 162 yard, one touchdown performance in a 35-17 victory over the Bengals. LeSean McCoy rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-16 rout of the 49ers. Odell Beckham, Jr. recorded 222 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a resurgent performance for the Giants, who beat the Ravens 27-23. Matthew Stafford threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-28 Lions victory over the Rams. Drew Brees did even better, throwing for 465 yards and four touchdowns as the Saints downed a struggling Panthers team 41-38. Dak Prescott continued his stellar start by outperforming Aaron Rodgers, throwing for 247 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-16 Cowboys victory over the Packers. Albeit in a losing effort 24-26 against the Seahawks, the Falcons’ Matt Ryan threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns. Finally, Lamar Miller carried the Texans to a 26-23 overtime victory in Houston with 149 rushing yards, two touchdowns (one rushing and one receiving), and a string of highlight plays against the Colts’ defense.
As the season nears the midway point of the NFL campaign, teams look to remain healthy and in form heading into the main bye weeks. The Panthers and Cowboys both have byes this week. Important matches this week include Giants @ Rams, Bills @ Dolphins, Patriots @ Steelers, Seahawks @ Cardinals, and Texans @ Broncos.
