Who is the Last Jedi?
January 26, 2017
Star Wars has officially released the title of episode 8, The Last Jedi. The fanbase has proceeded to explode with theories about what this teaser means, even going so far as to examine the red text used on the poster compared to the typical yellow.
The obvious idea is that the Last Jedi is Luke. The opening crawl in The Force Awakens clearly states Luke is the only known Jedi left. There is a chance, however, that the film’s lead role, Rey (played by Daisy Ridley), could also be the ‘last Jedi’.
The Force Awakens ends with Rey finding Luke, most likely to train under him and become a true Jedi. Assuming that the Star Wars will not kill off one of their newest characters, fans could conclude the possibility that Luke will die and Rey will take his place in the upcoming movie. Many fans have also pointed out that ‘Jedi’ is both the singular and plural. The ‘last Jedi’ could be both Luke and Rey, which means that neither of them will die anytime soon.
I talked to Oratory’s personal Star Wars expert, Mr. Acquadro, about his theories on the topic. He expressed no interest in Jedi being both singular and plural saying, “English is filled with so many words. We need fewer words.” Mr. Acquadro is also asserting that the new coloration is a sign that Star Wars was made in the Soviet Union saying, “Hopefully they are both killed by a herd of Sith war elephants.” This was in response to the question of who – if either of them – would he want to die? Rey or Luke?
If the Last Jedi is neither Luke or Rey, who is it? I believe that Mr. Acquadro has the true answer, “Only Mr. Kearns. Only Mr. Kearns.”
