Case Dismissed: the Rise of Aaron Judge
October 6, 2017
Most people know of the Yank’s rookie star, Aaron Judge. He was born in 1992 in Linden California. Throughout high school, he played football, basketball, and baseball. He even had scholarships from some Division 1 colleges to play football after catching 17 touchdowns in his senior year. In the end, he chose to stay in-state for college and played baseball for Fresno State. Judge was selected 32nd overall by the New York Yankees in 2013 and made his way up through the Minor Leagues to his first pro appearance in 2016 against the Tampa Bay Rays where he homered in his first at-bat. The right fielder towers at 6’7 and 282 lbs, the slugger build of a slugger. Judge has become a baseball phenomena as well as a new young face for the sport. With 114 RBI’s and 52 home runs, Judge just recently passed Mark McGwire of the Oakland A’s for the all time MLB rookie HR record. He is also the first rookie since 1953 to have 100 walks in a season. On September 20, Judge surpassed Babe Ruth’s record for most home runs in Yankee stadium in a single season with 33. It is no wonder why he has become such a spectacle for not just baseball fans but for sports fans all over. A full 162 game season will have its lowlights for anyone such as Judge breaking the all-time MLB rookie record for most strikeouts with 208 in total. He also broke the record for most consecutive games with a strikeout at 37 total.
With the Wild Card game pitting the New York Yankees against the Minnesota Twins in New York City, we’ll see how Aaron Judge will be able to handle the postseason pressure.
