OBJ and the Future of the Giants

Owen Novak, Staff Writer

After last Sunday, most sports analysts cut out the New York Giants from playoff contention.  After their 0-5 start to an NFL season that began with such high expectations, it seems that Giants fans shouldn’t have much hope for a comeback.  The worst part is the injury to star-receiver Odell Beckham Jr.  With four minutes left in the fourth quarter, Beckham jumped to catch the ball against a Los Angeles Chargers cornerback and came down with the corner landing on his left ankle.  The diagnosis was a fractured left ankle, which ends Odell Beckham’s season.  Also, the Giants defense has been underwhelming thus far.  Although most of the defense is quite healthy, the talent at the corner position continues to hurt them as opposing quarterbacks are able to throw the ball up the field.  While the defensive line has been able to stop most of the opposition’s running game, the deep ball has been wide open.

With a talented receiving core of Brandon Marshall and Odell Beckham Jr, completed receptions should become easy to come by.  Although, with a poor offensive line, quarterback Eli Manning will have a tough time throwing in the pocket with constant harassment from the defense.  The future shouldn’t be bleak with the star talent they have.  This season though is proving otherwise with injuries and poor performances from the New York Giants.  The question now is, is it time to rebuild or look for another run in the 2018 season for the playoffs?
