An Interview with Star Soccer Player Jacob Cordeiro

Jonathan DeMontagnac, Staff Writer

In this article, I had the chance to interview Jacob Cordeiro. Jacob is currently a junior center back who is crucial to Oratory’s defense. During this interview, we are able to gain some insight into Jacob’s thoughts and aspirations in soccer.

How long have you been playing soccer?

I have been playing soccer since I was seven. I first played in local leagues and then moved into club soccer very soon thereafter.

Was there a major influence that made you chose to play soccer?

My dad always had soccer on TV and I would watch games with him while I was little. He would take me to games and I’ve just always enjoyed the sport.

Do you have any pregame routines? If so what are they?

I’ll stretch on my own, even before warm-ups, to loosen my legs and get me ready. If it’s an away game I’ll listen to music on the bus.

Who would you say is the biggest influence in your life currently?

I’d say both of my parents are my biggest influences. They set high standards and want me to do everything to the best of my ability.

Are you looking to play college soccer?

I am interested in playing college soccer. I’ve looked at a few colleges but not really for any soccer purposes yet, as it’s not my main priority.

What is one word that you would use to describe yourself?

I’d use the word dedicated to describe myself. When I get involved with something, I like to show that I’m interested and I am there for a reason. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time and so I like to have a purpose as to why I’m doing something.

Do you currently have a personal goal (or goals) for this season? If so what are they?

As a defender, it’s not easy to score goals so I can’t really set a numbered target. I’d like to get a few assists and a decent amount of clean sheets throughout the season. As far as the team goes, we’d all like to add a banner in the OP gym and we feel a conference title would be our best shot.

If you could play for any pro team, which team would it be?

Manchester United just because they’re my favorite team.

Does anyone in your family play soccer? If so who?

My brother plays soccer and my sister used to but she no longer does.
