College Football Playoff Scenarios/Prediction
December 3, 2019
As the college football regular season is ending, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee is getting ready to pick the four best teams in the country to contend for the Championship. The top three seeds are no brainers with Ohio State at #1, obviously, the best team in the country with a perfect record and tough road wins against Penn State and Michigan. LSU comes in at number #2, also unbeaten with a pretty decent strength of record too. However, #3 is the Clemson Tigers, with 0 top 25 wins but 0 loses. They are the defending National Champs so even with no top 25 wins, they are in the conversation. And at #4 is where all heck breaks loose. There are many arguments that can be made here. First is #4 Georgia with one loss. They look like the best one-loss team, however, if they lose in the SEC Championship to #2 LSU, you can’t put them in. On the contrary, if they win, Georgia would move to #3 and LSU would drop to #4, both getting in. What if favored LSU takes care of business though, then Georgia would be out and maybe #5 Utah would get in. Utah has only one loss to USC early in the season but they have been playing strong since. No big wins for Utah though, however, they have a chance to get a vital win playing Oregon in the Pac 12 title game. That win might prevail them to the top 4. The last only two teams that could get in are from the Big 12. #6 Oklahoma and #8 Baylor. Oklahoma lost to Kansas State and Baylor lost to Oklahoma. Both tough teams, however, when they face off in their conference championship, their “true colors” will show. Is Oklahoma as good as the hype or is Baylor actually legit? No one knows yet.
My prediction is that the top 3 teams (Ohio State, LSU, and Clemson) take care of business in their games are land the 1-3 spots. However, in the last spot, I have Oklahoma jumping Utah. Utah even with an Oregon win does not have a major win to make them elite. Oklahoma would have to beat a top 10 Baylor twice which is extremely hard to do with other various top 25 wins. BOOMER SOONER!
