OP Baseball Picks Up First Win of the Season At MKA

After a rocky start to the season, Oratory earned their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating MKA 10-7.

The Rams scored quickly in the 1st thanks to an RBI single from Senior Jack Greco. Keaveney escaped back-to-back jams in the first two innings before the Cougars got to him, scoring a pair in the bottom of the 3rd. MKA would pad their lead in the 4th when 4 runs crossed the plate. In the top half of the 5th, the Rams would string together a two-out rally courtesy of a Jack Greco triple that scored Grasso and Drone. MKA would add another in the bottom frame to extend their lead to 7-3.

Both bats went silent in the 6th, but OP erupted in the top of the 7th. Singles from Grasso, Colandrea, and O’Dowd would make it a 7-6 game in favor of MKA. On a two-strike count, Jack Cuddihy would deliver the hit of the game. He drove a single to the left side past the diving SS into left field. Seelagy would work a walk, giving OP the lead before Senior Logan Drone would drive in two more with a single.

Kyle Hart would record the save and lock up the W for the Rams.

OP’s previously lackluster offense exploded for 10 runs on 15 hits. Senior Logan Drone was 3-4 with 2 RBIs, Grasso was 2-4 with an RBI (bolstering his BA to .375), Greco also had 2 hits and 3 RBIs, and O’Dowd and Gobel each added 2 hits.

Senior pitcher Connor Keaveney did a solid job, only surrendering 4 ER to MKA.

This was a crucial win for the team and, more importantly, the school. The Rams have 4 games this week: Monday vs Dayton, Tuesday @ Brearley, Thursday vs Linden, and Saturday vs Summit.
