The Oscars
April 1, 2022
The Oscars this year was quite unlike any other. I myself enjoyed it and was honestly surprised how well it went. There were a lot of fantastic movies this year that received Oscar nominations, with all of them being incredible and noticed for their achievements. At this particular Oscars, a lot of historical things happened: Troy Kotsur being the first deaf man to win an Oscar, Ariana Debose being the first openly queer woman and second-ever Latina to win an Oscar, a woman winning best director for the second year in a row, and many more. But of all the monumental things that happened at the Oscars, it will be remembered by most from one event in particular: the slap. Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, totally unscripted, was one of the most awkward and absurd moments in my memory of any Oscar. But, besides that little hiccup, the Oscars was very enjoyable to watch. It had many tributes to anniversaries of films, such as the James Bond saga and the Godfather trilogy.
