OPXC Update: Rams Hope to Turn Things Around Before County Championships
October 12, 2022
Since August, talks about the potential of the 2022 Oratory Prep Cross Country team have been frequently recurring; however I believe Russell Wilson put it best when he said, “Potential just means you haven’t done it yet.” After being outclassed by state ranked #2 Union Catholic, #4 Westfield and #7 Summit at the Conference Championships on October 11th – the boys will hope to turn it around at the Union County Championships on October 20th. Despite varsity finishing without a single runner achieving a new personal best, it is notable to mention that the JV Rams took home 3rd place up against the whole county. The JV scoring 5 consisted of Bobby Bajkowski, Rome Brachfeld, Dean Webber, Shane Costalos and Michael Buonaiuto. As for varsity, it looks as if a fire has been lit under them after the disappointing performance at conferences. This is especially true for the top 3 of Tommy Hunt, Gus Russo and Declan Kelly, all of whom will look to tear up Warinanco Park for the county meet. As for

the rest of the varsity 7, it is somewhat unknown who will fill out spots 4,5,6 & 7, but best believe they

will give everything for the team. The County championship is a meet that the Rams placed top 5 in 2017, 2018 and 2019; Varsity will look to channel some of the Oratory magic of old, and regain the exclusive top 5 status. Although they have experienced some adversity this season, it is not a smart idea to count out OPXC; The Revenge Tour starts now – if I were you, I’d buckle up for the ride.
