Post Season Interview with George Fagan, Varsity Backup Goalkeeper
December 18, 2022
This past season, sophomore goalkeeper George Fagan surprisingly broke into OP’s varsity soccer squad – even starting after an injury to senior Kal Mitchell. George is one of the hardest working kids I know. During the offseason he is always in the gym, looking to improve and grow as a player. I had the pleasure to sit down with the sophomore for a few minutes and ask him the following questions.
“What was it like being on varsity as a sophomore?”
“It was an amazing experience; I had a bunch of great teammates that could teach me how to have a good attitude and give me advice in practice. I felt that I had two great coaches as well, who were able to help with anything I needed and especially had Kal (varsity starter) to help me improve along the season by being able to watch his technique.”
“What were your experiences as a fan favorite, having everyone cheer you on?”
“I really liked to hear people cheer me on, especially because I thought it was funny for the most part. You are nervous before you are about to get into the game, but once everyone starts to call your name the pressure leaves your shoulders.”
“How did the older guys treat you and what did you learn from them?”
“The older guys treated me well and taught me what attitude to have if I wanted to be a leader on the team, how to act in practices, and they were good role models for how to know what to do if I wanted to get better.”
“What are your thoughts on your performances and team performances this past season? What can we expect from you and the team for the years to come at Oratory?”
“I thought my performance was pretty good, but I know I can do a lot better for my teammates. Next season, I want to do very well for my teammates and make this upcoming year a good experience for us all. I want to improve my kicking and my catching a bit, but also just enjoy the next two seasons that I have left. I thought my team did a very good job with scoring so many banger goals and Kal Micthell making great saves in net. I also thought it was really fun to watch the emotion we showed on the field and how hard we fought until the end of each game. I feel we can be very good next year and we are definitely capable of improving upon our performance from this past season.”
