After the long wait, the NFL has finally returned and we already have a ton of chaos… and I will be covering it all. Let’s begin at Week 1, The Detroit Lions went into Kansas City and beat them on their own turf, by a score of 21-20, a shocking start to the 2023 season. Joe Burrow and the Bengals had a very disappointing game against the Browns, losing 24-3 with Joe Burrow having arguably the worst game of his career. Calvin Ridley made his presence felt in his debut, gathering 101 receiving yards and a TD in his Jaguars debut, with the Jags getting the win over the Colts 31-21. Baker Mayfield and the Bucs shocked many, beating the Vikings 20-17 at Minnesota. Justin Jefferson had over 150 receiving yards for the Vikings but he couldn’t do it all. The 49ers blew the Steelers out of the water in Pittsburgh. The final score was 30-7, but watching the game myself it seemed like it was much more.
The Packers went into Chicago and killed the Bears 38-20 in Jordan Love’s first real game for the Packers. The Eagles were beating the Patriots 16-0 until the Pats made the comeback and had a chance to win the game at the end, but could not come up on top as the Eagles won 25-20. The Miami Dolphins beat the Chargers in a thriller 36-34 in Overtime with Tyreek Hill having over 215 receiving yards and Tua having 466 passing yards for the Dolphins.
Then the Sunday Night Game came, and let’s just say it didn’t go well for the Giants. As a Giants fan, I turned the game off after the 1st quarter. Cowboys dominated the Giants and won 40-0. Aaron Rodgers long-awaited Jets debut came the next night at Metlife. On the 4th play of the game, Rodgers tore his Achilles. A complete heartbreaker for all Jets fans who now have the whole season with Zach Wilson again and are without their star QB. The Jets won the game though, 22-16 with an Xavier Gipson Punt Return TD in Overtime to win. Josh Allen also had a disasterclass throwing 3 interceptions.
If you thought Week 1 was crazy, wait till you hear about Week 2. The Falcons beat the Packers 25-24 to go to 2-0 on the season. The Ravens beat the Bengals 27-24 as the Bengals are now 0-2 and Joe Burrow does not look like himself. The Seahawks beat the Lions in an Overtime Thriller 37-31! The Titans upset the Chargers in Overtime 27-24 to make the Chargers 0-2 but both those games are not on QB Justin Herbert. The Chiefs bounced back and beat the Jags 17-9 in a defensive battle. The Colts beat the Texans 31-20 but CJ Stroud looks very promising throwing for almost 400 yards. The Giants were losing to the Cardinals 20-0 at halftime and came back from 21 points to win 31-28 with a Daniel Jones masterclass. Saquon hurt his ankle and is expected to be out for a couple of weeks.
The Cowboys killed the Jets 30-10 with a great game by the Cowboys defense again; Micah Parsons was dominant, I know it’s early but Micah looks like he could be the DPOTY. Denver was beating Washington 21-3 but came back to win 35-33. The Broncos scored on a Hail Mary at the end but failed on the 2 PT Attempt to tie the game. The Dolphins won a gritty one in New England 24-17. The Saints beat the Panthers 20-17 on MNF and Bryce Young obviously still has a lot to learn. The Steelers beat the Browns 26-22 in the other MNF game with a great game by Steelers WR George Pickens and the Steelers Defense. Nick Chubb unfortunately had a bad knee injury and the Browns Star RB is out for the season. That’s all I got! 2 great weeks of football down with 16 left to play!
