The history department is made up of phenomenal teachers like Mr. Horan, Mr. Martin, Mr. Corcoran, Mr. McCrystal, and now Mr. Sartori. I’ve had the pleasure of having three of these teachers, but unfortunately will not be able to have Mr. Sartori. Although, that didn’t stop me from getting to know OP’s new historian as I requested an interview with him! Look below to learn more about OP’s newest faculty member.
What classes do you teach?
I teach US History 1 Honors, AP Economics, and Marketing.
How did you begin teaching history, or when did you begin to be interested in teaching it?
It was in my sophomore year of college. I was still undecided and needed to pick a major. I asked my friends what I’m good at and they told me that I was good at helping them with homework, so I decided to major in education and history because history was my favorite subject.
How long have you been teaching?
11 years of teaching so far. Last 10 years were at Immaculate Heart Academy. It’s like OP, but with girls.
How’ve you found your experience at Oratory Prep so far?
I’ve really enjoyed it. Everyone’s been really welcoming so far, from the teachers
to all the students. It’s been a nice change from teaching at an all-girls school to now teaching all-boys.
Now you say everyone’s been welcoming, but has anyone gone out of their way to make you feel extra welcome?
That’s tough because everyone’s just been so welcoming, but if I had to say, I would say the students. They’ve just been patient with me while I adapt and haven’t tried to burn the classroom down, so I appreciate that.
When not teaching, what do you like to do?
Well, I don’t have much free time, but when I do, I enjoy spending time with my wife and playing with my cats, Oreo and Marshmallow. I also enjoy reading Science Fiction, as well as watch collecting. I have a few watches that I put together and assemble in my free time. I also coach track as well.
How’d you describe yourself personality-wise or as a teacher to those that might have you in the future, or students that just want to get to know you better?
I would say I’m pretty laid-back but serious about the things that I love and am passionate about. I love a little sarcasm and telling dad jokes. I like to think that I like to have fun, but I’m seriously extremely passionate about what I do.
