The Premier League, this season, has been filled with surprises throughout the table. Big 6 clubs are missing out on the Champions League next season while the bottom four teams are still fighting for a win. In this article, we will recap teams based on the first 6 match days and what to expect for the rest of the year.
Top 4
Manchester City, 1st: No surprises here, Pep Guardiola has once again assembled the best team in the world with constant rotation in the squad. His seemingly unlimited funding has brought some big names to the club such as Gvardiol, Doku, Kovacic, and Nunes for a total of 240 million euros. They will probably drop a few points here and there, but expect them to finish the season with another trophy.
Prediction: 1st place
Liverpool, 2nd: Last year, Liverpool went through a rough patch not being able to consistently win with plaguing injuries. Fortunately, Liverpool is in great form and will definitely be fighting for the title. Darwin Nunez has started in-form and the rest of the team seems to be in sync. The only question for the team is whether Trent’s defense will be good enough. It has been shaky the past few years and it has proven to be an issue in some big games.
Prediction: 2nd place
Brighton, 3rd: This year, Brighton has proven to be an extremely well run club with them constantly selling players for way higher than they bought them. They seem to constantly create hidden gems with players such as Mitoma, Caicedo, and Mac Allister. Unfortunately, I doubt that they can keep this up the rest of the year and are due for a rough patch.
Prediction: 6th place
Tottenham, 4th: Tottenham has been one of those teams who isn’t really competing for a title, but instead competing for top 4. At the moment, they are on the edge with Son and Maddison but they haven’t been able to replace Harry Kane. If they want to be the best, they need to find another huge impact player.
Prediction: 5th place
Other Notable Teams
Arsenal, 5th: Arsenal is definitely one of the teams that will be fighting for the title. Players like Saka, Ramsdale, Odegaard, and Martinelli are all high class players who have massive importance in the squad. If they stay healthy, they are definitely able to compete with Man City and Liverpool. They are definitely a top 4 team.
Prediction: 4th place
Newcastle, 8th: Newcastle is definitely a team that will impress people with their sharpness. After their 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United, they cannot be taken lightly as an opponent. They work well together and are able to finish. They don’t have many weaknesses other than not being a Big 6 club. Isak and Tonali have been two great additions in the transformation of the club. Don’t be surprised when they finish Top 4.
Prediction: 3rd place
Manchester United, 9th: Man Utd is currently in shambles and under a lot of pressure to perform. It doesn’t seem like Erik Ten Hag has control over the team and hasn’t been putting up results. Players such as Sancho and Greenwood have not been playing for questionable reasons. I can’t see them gaining any traction this year and will probably finish around 8th.
Prediction: 8th place
Chelsea, 14th: Chelsea, at the moment, seems to have no clue what they are doing as a club. No one really knows what this season is supposed to look like for them. It’s obviously not a title race year since they sold all of their players. But it doesn’t seem like a rebuilding year, because they haven’t been bringing in a lot of talent. It seems like they just sold all the players for the money. They won’t get relegated but they will be a mid-table club this year.
Prediction: 10th place
Relegation Battle:
The bottom of the table is filled with clubs undergoing rebuilds or simply being promoted, but not ready to compete. Clubs such as Everton, Wolves, Bournemouth, Luton Town, Burnley, and Sheffield are all in this fight. From what the first few weeks have shown, some teams just cannot seem to get it right. Everton is currently changing ownership to an American company, a red flag for the fans, but has brought in some quality players to keep themselves out of relegation. Wolves have serious offensive issues with Raul Jimenez leaving for Fulham and no one seemingly being able to fill his shoes. I wouldn’t expect Bournemouth to make any waves this season and would expect them to be close to relegation the whole year. Luton, Burnley, and Sheffield have all been promoted this year, but it is becoming seemingly obvious that they don’t belong. Luton is a fan favorite for their small stadium, but they don’t have the ability to compete. Sheffield just lost to Newcastle, 8-0 in an embarrassing defeat which was a poor display and a lack of determination was shown. Burnley is also always in-and-out of the Prem and wouldn’t be surprised if they drop back down.
