St. Philip Neri Club is starting off the 2023-2024 school year strong with a plethora of drives in the works. There are already pods set up to help sell breast cancer awareness bracelets, make a flower garden, and donate Halloween candy. The members of the Governing Board are the leaders of these pods, so for more information on how to get involved, contact Mrs. Michalski or any of the Governing Board members. In the coming weeks and months, though, St. Philip Neri Club will also be running the sock drive, Thanksgiving food drive, the Christmas giving tree, and opportunities to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and community food banks.
In addition to these numerous drives, the big project to kick off the new school year, in honor of October being the month of the Holy Rosary, was for the entire club to pitch in to create a huge rosary to put outside of the school for everyone to see. After some suggestions, the Governing Board settled on the idea to use colored wiffle balls as the beads, with a long rope to connect everything. The Governing Board met on October 5th to work out the kinks on how exactly the Rosary will be made. There needed to be knots separating the Our Father wiffle balls from the Hail Mary wiffle balls; however, the entirety of the 35-minute meeting was dedicated to watching the struggle of multiple Governing Board members trying to tie knots. It was originally planned for the entire club on Friday to help put wiffle balls on the Rosary, but after the Thursday meeting, it was justly decided to let the work occur behind the scenes where embarrassment would be at a minimum. This club may do a lot of good for the community dealing with many issues, but it seems that a mere rope is an issue that cannot be solved.
