Gerrit Cole had one of his best seasons as a pitcher. The right-hander, who is 33 years old and the New York Yankees’ ace, recently took home his first CY Young trophy. Gerrit Cole was outstanding even though the Yankees only won 82 games and missed the playoffs. He pitched 209 innings in 33 games that he started. This year, he reduced the amount of home runs he gave up, something he struggles with most years. Only 20 home runs were allowed by him, which is quite remarkable with the infamous short porch at Yankee Stadium. Gerrit Cole’s 0.98 WHIP this season was his most remarkable number. This qualified as the best in the Majors. Gerrit Cole struck out 222 batters with a 2.63 ERA. He was dominant for the Yankees and looks to replicate this season next year. (hopefully more successful for the Yankees)
