Championship Games Recap:
SEC Championship
Georgia vs. Alabama was an intense game that will be remembered for years to come. Coming into this game Georgia were the favorites as they were undefeated and the number one team in the country, and Alabama were the eighth ranked team. This has always been a rivalry so you can never count either team out. This game was played at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia which was filled with fans from both schools. Georgia took the lead in the 1st quarter, ending 7-3. In the second quarter Alabama made a comeback and started to run away with the game. By half time the score was 17-7 Alabama. Both teams had a quiet 3rd quarter both only scoring 1 field goal. In the 4th quarter, Georgia tried mounting a comeback but ultimately fell short as the game ended in an Alabama win 27-24. The standout player from this game was Alabama quarterback, Jalen Milroe, he finished the game with 192 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns. Not only can Milroe throw the ball at an elite level, it was his running ability which sealed the game for Alabama. The last two first downs Alabama got within the last 3 minutes of the game were both from scrambles by Milroe, on one of which he ran for 30 yards. This was a great game, which had immense playoff implications and shook up the AP Top 25.
Pac-12 Championship
The Championship game between Washington and Oregon at Allegiant Stadium was a game not to miss. It was an action-packed down-to-the-wire type of game that had fans on their heels. In the end, Washington was able to secure the win 34-31. Washington Quarterback and Heisman Trophy Candidate Michael Penix Jr. had an electric game with 319 passing yards. The game was tight all the way through and then Washington scored a crucial touchdown toward the end to eventually secure the game. Overall this game was very exciting and a true college football experience to watch.
Heisman Trophy
The Heisman Trophy is the greatest personal achievement a college football player could get. It goes out to the best player of that collegiate season. This year the Heisman ceremony was held on December 9th, and LSU quarterback, Jayden Daniels won the prestigious award. Daniels had a great season this year, he threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 72.2% and only threw 4 interceptions. Not only was he exceptional throwing the ball but also running it. This year he ran for 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns. Rushing for 1,134 yards would be a career year for a large majority of running backs, so getting that kind of production out of your quarterback is beyond impressive. Although LSU as a team didn’t have a great season, Jayden had an amazing one and the Heisman was well deserved.
College Football Championship:
The College Football Playoff Committee excluded FSU from the college football playoffs. This came with some severe backlash from fans all around the country. Even Florida Senator Rick Scott is demanding answers from the committee. Last week the committee chose to appoint Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama to the four-team field. There was one team missing from this list that was thought to be voted in. Florida State University had an amazing season with a record of 13-0. They also won the ACC Championship beating Louisville. This was the first time in history that an undefeated team that won the ACC Championship didn’t get voted in the playoffs. Instead, they voted in Alabama who had a worse record of 12-1. The predictions for the Championship games are below.
