Now that most fantasy leagues have concluded for this season, fantasy managers should start to research players before their next draft begins this summer for the 2024 season. It’s never too early to prepare! Here are my initial top-five position rankings for the 2024 fantasy season to get you started on the right track:
Quarterback:
- Lamar Jackson
2. Jalen Hurts
3. Josh Allen
4. Dak Prescott
5. Brock Purdy
One name that fantasy players might expect to be on this list that is missing is Patrick Mahomes. I do not have Mahomes on my list because of his offense’s current situation. Travis Kelce’s game rapidly declined in the second half of this season. The Chief’s wide receiver core is weak, other than Rashee Rice, and led the league this year in dropped balls. Until the Chiefs trade, sign, or draft offensive linemen and wide receiver upgrades for Patrick Mahomes, it’s going to be a risky move to draft Mahomes as your QB1 next season.
Running Back:
- Christian McCaffery
2. Kyren Williams
3. Breece Hall
4. Jahmyr Gibbs
5. Saquan Barkley
I do not have Bijan Robinson on my list because of his situation in Atlanta. Coach Arthur Smith has not been using Bijan Robinson consistently, playing less talented backup running backs Tyler Allgeier and Cordalle Patterson in certain game scenarios. The only way that I’m going to draft Robinson with my first or second-round pick is if Arthur Smith does not return next season.
Wide Receiver:
- Justin Jefferson
2. Tyreek Hill
3. Ceedee Lamb
4. Amon-Ra St.Brown
5. A.J. Brown
Ja’Maar Chase is right behind Brown on my list. The unknowns surrounding his quarterback (Joe Burrow who is currently out for the year with an injury) and long-time running back Joe Mixon (who is in the last year of his contract with the Bengals and likely won’t return) knock him out of my top 5 wide receiver list.
Tight End:
- Sam LaPorta
2. Trey Mcbride
3. George Kittle
4. Mark Andrews
5. Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce still makes my list as the position is weak overall. First-round projected Georgia tight-end Brock Bowers has the potential to make this list as well, but it depends on what team he goes to. For example, if Bowers were to be drafted by the New Orleans Saints, it’s unlikely I would pick him as my TE1 due to Derek Carr and his inconsistent play. However, if Bowers were to be drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, then I would draft him as my TE1 if available and he could sneak by Travis Kelce on this list.
