It hasn’t been an easy start to the season for the Oratory Hockey Team. With a tough 1-8 record, the team is coming off some close losses to NJ Top 15 teams Morristown, MoBeard, and Chatham. Even though it has been a brutal season so far, the team still has a chance to make some noise in the second half of the season. Although they have lost almost all their games this season, the Rams are still confident that they can do what they couldn’t last year: Win the Kelly Conference. This has been the team’s goal since last year’s loss to MKA. For the rest of the season, the Rams will compete against Nutley, Glen Rock, Scotch Plains, and Verona among others. It’s not going to be an easy end to the season, but the team is ready to make a late-season run.
At this point in the season, sophomore Henry Zahn leads the team with 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists). Juniors Sebastian Leach and Francesco Logrippo are right behind. Perhaps one reason for the team’s slow start is the fact that most students on the team are either freshmen or sophomores. Although this bodes well for the future, it does have an impact now on the experience and size difference that other teams possess. Additionally, the team hasn’t been able to put the puck in the back of the net. Besides an easy win against Scotch Plains, the team hasn’t been able to score over 3 goals in a game. If they can produce some more goals and scoring chances, the team will undoubtedly see better results. In conclusion, the season hasn’t been lost yet. If the team can find their game and start producing some goals they could win the Kelly Cup. One thing that could surely help the Rams is a strong student section. On Monday, January 15th the Rams will face the cross street rival Summit at Warinanco Rink. Be there and Be Loud. The team needs your support.
