After a long and hard competition, the Mock Trial team unfortunately was defeated in the finals. Going up against Kent Place, the prosecution (which had gone up four times) gave it their all. Amazing performances were given by Joey DiRienzo, Joshua D’Cruz, and Aiden Wizeman. Aiden and Joey both were fairly new in their roles, being inserted into them only weeks prior. The attorneys, Sam Nnadi and Aryan Sabnekar both gave a stellar performance and had Kent Place on the ropes for quite some time.
At the end of this very long, hard-fought battle, the Judges gave their verdict: Kent Place had won, by a singular point. This loss stung us greatly, seeing as a one-point difference is insanely small. The entire team could feel the disappointment as months of hard work seemed to lead to nothing…
Although we lost, Mr. Martin rejuvenated the team spirit by giving us a very heartfelt speech and motivated many team members to do the same. The months of hard work no longer seemed lost. The team knew that this hard work would pay off next year and for the years to come.
For the seniors, I’d like to extend a special thank you. The knowledge you taught the team is going to carry on for the rest of the competition, and their lives. To Sam, thank you for taking my spot when I couldn’t deliver. Without you stepping up and taking up the responsibility, the team wouldn’t be complete. You’re an amazing person, never mad or upset and you always have an optimistic view. To Aryan, thank you for being such a great mentor to me. Thanks for answering my questions at random times. Thank you for everything you did to lead the team alongside Sam. Without your help, I wouldn’t be half the attorney I was. Thank you for mentoring me both inside and outside the Mock Trial scene. You both gave it your all!
A special thank you to Mr. Martin as well. Mr. Martin is very patient and puts insane amounts of time into the team. His compassion alongside his willingness to help makes him the ideal candidate for a coach. Thank you for entertaining all my stupid questions and mind-numbing CWP sessions. I can’t wait to work with you and the rest of the team next year.
To anyone reading this (first of all–thanks), please consider joining Mock Trial next year! Although it is a pretty big commitment, it’s so worth it to see all your hard work pay off. It’s a fun experience and is something I will partake in until my senior year.
