On Monday, April 1st the Rams faced off on opening day against Governor Livingston at “The Hill.” The Rams were getting ready by hitting BP starting 2 hours before the first pitch and got some reps from shagging. The Rams came into this game with high amounts of energy, or as George Fagan would put it “I’M STARVING.” As the Rams arrived at GL’s field they started their warmups by throwing and fielding IO. In the bottom of the 1st, as the leadoff runner gets on base, he was immediately thrown out by junior catcher Caden Breault, adding to the energy already created by the Rams. After a rough first three innings the Rams were down 4-0 in the 4th inning. Joseph Loiacono started off the inning by getting hit by a pitch, in which Caden Breault then moved him over to second. Senior Captain Robbie Costello stepped up to the plate and hit a line drive off of GL’s starting pitcher for a single. With runners on the corners Joe Loiacono would be able to steal home to score Ram’s first run. Jalen Brogdon continued his at bat and moved Costello over to 3rd with 2 outs. Another passed ball led to Costello stealing home putting the Rams down 4-2. Although the Rams went on to lose, Coach Blauner stated that he was not mad about the performance stating that there were many highs to this game, lots of teamwork, and high energy throughout the entire game. The Rams fell to the Highlanders 10-2 at the end as they went on to prepare for their games against Westfield, Elizabeth, and Montville later that week.
