On Thursday, April 18th, the Oratory Prep Golf team tee’d off against perennial powerhouse Westfield, who is currently ranked #3 in the state and sat atop the county and the conference standings. However, the Rams were far from intimidated by the recent praise given to their opponents, even when traveling to play at Westfield’s home course (Echo Lake Country Club). This was made evident by the efforts of Captains Nick DeRosa and Henry Bolster – who shot 37 and 38 on the 9-hole Par-35 course. The two were supported by Seniors Jack Pastore & Dylan MacNaughton, who each shot 40 to round out the Rams scoring 4. The dagger of the match came on the 9th hole when President DeRosa displayed near-pinpoint accuracy from over 200 yards out to set him up with a birdie putt, inevitably sealing the victory for the Rams. The top-4 total of 155 is the 2nd lowest score of the Rams so far this year and was good enough to beat the highly talented Westfield Blue Devils by 5 strokes to take solo control over the Watchung Divison (Union County’s Top Conference). For context, 6 players compete in a match with the top 4 scores counting to the team total. In each match so far, the scoring-4 has been a variation of the following 5 athletes. Here, they are listed alongside their average scores and top performances.
