(Doesn’t contain spoilers)
On March 20, Disney released a continuation of an old animated series, X-Men. The show originally ran for 4 years from 1992 to 1996 before being cancelled. However, it’s often considered to be one of the best-animated shows because of its in-depth character development and plot. The rebooted version of the show picks up right after the old one ends. Immediately, the show started with amazing reviews. It’s currently rated very highly by Rotten Tomatoes with a 98% score. Although I was skeptical of the notion of an old rebooted animated show, I was proven wrong. X-Men ‘97 is good. The characters are completely faithful to their original adaptations and some are done even better than before. For example, Cyclops is made into a more effective leader who has a practical attitude and doesn’t back down. Before Cyclops was pushed around by Wolverine, whiny, overtly arrogant, and not the best fighter. The show also explores various comic storylines and wastes no time getting to the good stuff. It jumps right into very aggressive storylines with a lot happening and there is no time for fluff. I think what is most telling about this show though is its most recent episode. The most recent episode titled “Remember It” has shocking turns, some of which show the writers aren’t afraid to push the boundaries for a “kids’ show” and for what fans expected. Overall, the show is only halfway in but it’s already sticking to the old while paving the way for new and interesting storylines. Episodes release every Wednesday. So far, this has been my favorite Marvel TV show ever surpassing even Loki.
