The Oratory Prep baseball team was placed as the 13th seed of the Union County Tournament, meaning that they would face #4 Summit in a cross town rivalry matchup. Summit had a record of 12-3-1, beating top 20 opponents in Governor Livingston(previously No.5) and Westfield(previously No.12). Summit swept Oratory last season in their Mountain Division run, as they shut Oratory out 6-0 and beat them later in the season 8-2. Micheal Greco took the hill for the Rams. To start, Robbie Costello smoked a ball to the left side bouncing over the shortstop’s head for a leadoff single. Costello’s base running would pay off in his 3-3 day, stealing home in the first inning to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Summit would bounce back in the first inning with a fielders choice rbi to tie the game. The Rams bounced back in the top half of the third inning scoring two runs, one off a Caden Breault sacrifice. Summit would yet again bounce back in the bottom half cutting the Oratory lead in half as it was 3-2. Oratory would not stop there as some Summit mistakes led them to gain 2 more runs in the top of the 4th. Devon Mulvaney’s aggressive base running led Summit to commit two errors to score from first on a pickoff error. A Jalen Brogdon sacrifice fly would increase the Oratory lead by one more, making it 6-2 in the 6th inning. Micheal Greco finished as the player of the game, pitching 5 2/3, striking out 10, and earning the win. MJ Cohen shut the door pitching the last 1 1/3, earning the save for Oratory and giving them the 6-4 win.
The Rams play Cranford in the quarterfinal round May 8 in hopes to get closer to a county chip.
