The Oratory Prep baseball team’s season can be summed up as a season with a bunch of highs and lows. The Rams are looking to close in on the State tournament with a winning streak to gain momentum for power points. This would all start with two matchups at home against Morris Hills and Roselle Catholic.
Michael Greco took the hill for the Rams as he made his fourth start of the year Saturday in his senior campaign. One word that could sum up his performance is dominant. Greco brought in his momentum from his masterclass he had in the first round of counties just a week prior, as he had a six inning shutout performance. Oratory’s ace only gave up 2 hits as he struck out 8, bringing his season total to 43. Greco can easily pass his personal best for most in a season in which he is only 3 away from that title. In his last five appearances, the senior has 34 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched, all adding up to a 1.67 ERA. This game can be named as a pitchers dual, as Oratory struck first with a Joe Loiacono rbi single. The Rams would double their lead in the bottom half of the 6 as a Dante Ianitelli sacrifice fly allowed George Fagan to score. Ryan Santoriello would earn the save as Oratory held on for a crucial 2-1 win.
Two days later the boys in blue would be back to work as divisional foe Roselle Catholic came to town (Still an RC home game). The Rams would jump to a 3-0 lead to start in the top of the first, leaving sophomore Thomas Albanito to get to work in the bottom half. Albanito would show positive signs, striking out 3 in 4 innings pitches. A highlight from this game was Caden Breault’s 2 run home run to make it 6-0. Breault, who is know up to .308 in batting average, would finish the game with 3 rbis. George Fagan would come in after Albanito in relief, going 3 innings and striking out 4. The Rams fiery offense would play a huge role in their 12-2 win. The Rams play Union Catholic away today at 4 p.m.
