Now that your humble breakfast sandwich correspondent has his driver’s license, he will be expanding his coverage beyond the Morristown-Madison-Chatham-Summit corridor. Also, I now have a parking space close to DeGaeta, so, I will be able to spend a lot more time in the mornings doing my report. I would like to take note of the spineless mealy mouthism of our governor who when recently asked whether he calls it pork roll or Taylor ham, he weaseled out and called it “Taylor Roll”— which is not a thing. But, in honor of the end of summer, I’d like to review the best Taylor Ham Egg, and Cheese I had over the summer at Patti’s Kitchen in Normandy beach.
As y’all know, the Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese is the state sandwich of New Jersey. However, down the shore, there aren’t a lot of good THECS. This is quite a shame. People come from all across the northeast to the shore, and we welcome them with crappy THECS? This one was my favorite on the island, but it is a step down from the ones I had in Morris/Union County.
But I digress—onto the rating. The layout of the THEC was a bagel, with three pieces of Taylor ham, separated by cheese and eggs. There wasn’t a whole lot of bread on the bagel. It was very thin. Thus, it got a little soggy when you bit into it.
The sandwich itself was very tasty. But after a couple of bites, it got a little messy.
Finally—the rating:
Bagel: 1/3
Taylor Ham: 2.5/3
Egg:1.5/2
Cheese: 1.5/2
Total: 6.5/10
