This year’s free agent class is filled with tons of talent. Here are 10 of the best free agents currently, and where I think they will end up.
- Juan Soto- Yankees
- Juan Soto is currently the best free agent available and a generational talent. He has been compared to Ted Williams and his eye and the plate is one of the best we have ever seen. Last offseason the Yankees acquired him for Michael King, Kyle Higashioka, and other prospects. Trading such a haul points to all likelihood that the Yankees will give him a contract nearing 600 million or more and likely at least 12 years. In my opinion, other teams in contention to attain Soto are the Mets, Dodgers, and the Giants.
- Corbin Burnes- Mets
- Corbin Burnes is currently the best available pitcher in free agency. He has consistently been one of the best in the league, even winning a Cy Young. He was traded last offseason to Baltimore, however, the Orioles are not known to spend big, which points to him leaving. I think the Mets, especially if they do not sign Juan Soto, will try to pursue Burnes as they are in need of starting pitching, and a true ace. They have the funds to go after a top arm such as him. In my opinion, other teams in contention to sign Burnes are the Red Sox and possibly the Orioles if they decide to extend him.
- Blake Snell- Rangers
- After a disappointing season, following a World Series win the year before, I see the Rangers getting aggressive when regarding their pitching staff. The Rangers have shed money from out of their bullpen, and potentially letting Nathan Eovaldi go, so I see them going after Snell to get one of the best and most established starters in the league. If the Rangers do not get him I could see the Mets or Yankees going after him and potentially a reunion with the Padres being possible.
- Alex Bregman- Tigers
- The Tigers shocked everyone this year, making the playoffs and beating the Astros in the wildcard round, but their downfall was ultimately their lack of hitting. Alex Bregman has consistently been one of the best 3rd basemen and a reliable hitter, and I see the Tigers signing him to get an established bat into the lineup. In my opinion, other teams in contention to sign Bregman are the Mariners or an extension from the Astros.
- Max Fried- Braves
- Throughout his time in Atlanta, Max Fried has consistently been one of the best starters in the league. He has been a beloved member of the Braves by the fans and organization for years, and I do not see him leaving. If he were to leave, I could see the Mets, Rangers, or Padres going after him.
- Anthony Santander- Mariners
- Anthony Santadner was a core piece of the Orioles through their rebuild and rough years. He had a great year and I could see the Mariners signing him as they greatly lack offense. I see the Orioles letting him go as they have an influx of young talent in the minors and they can focus their money on other parts of the team. Other suitors for Santander could be the Blue Jays, Guardians, or the Yankees, in a situation where they were to lose Soto.
- Pete Alonso- Mets
- Pete Alonso has been a Met all his career. He is a homegrown talent and has inked himself in the Mets history books. He struggled all year but had a great playoff. The fans and his teammates love him and I definitely see him coming back. His home run in the 3rd wildcard game against the Brewers is one of the greatest moments in Met history, and there is no way I could see them letting him go. If they were to let him go, other suitors could be the Astros, who are in need of a first baseman, the Mariners, who lack offense, or the Yankees, as they consider him part of their backup plan if they were to lose Soto.
- Willy Adames- Giants
- Adames is coming off a career with the Brewers, but knowing the Brewers, they will not resign him. The Brewers acquired Joey Ortiz in the Corbin Burnes trade and consider him the shortstop of the future, and they are usually not known for spending much money anyway. I think the Giants will try to acquire him to get an established bat into a young lineup. Other suitors for Adames could be the Mets, Braves, and Dodgers.
- Jack Flaherty- Dodgers
- Coming off a World Series win, I see no reason why the Dodgers would not resign Jack Flaherty. He was huge for them down the second-half stretch and made some clutch starts in the playoffs. He is a hometown kid and the Dodgers traded a bunch of capital for him, so I see an extension being likely for him. If he doesn’t resign I could see the Mets, Red Sox, and even Yankees pursuing him.
- Tanner Scott- Mets
- Tanner Scott was possibly the best left-handed reliever in baseball and he would be a great addition to most teams. I could see the Mets signing him as their downfall in the playoffs was their lack of bullpen pitching, and a lack of a quality lefty out of the bullpen. Other teams that may sign him are the Yankees, who also need another lefty, or the Phillies.
