As fall ends, we dive into winter sports, including basketball, bowling, fencing, hockey, indoor track, and swimming. Last year, OP Swim had a fantastic season, finishing 8-3 and placing 3rd in the UCC, with only Summit and Westfield ahead. The Rams also defeated St. Joseph in the first round of the NJSIAA tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals against Seton Hall Prep, where they fought hard but ultimately fell short. This season, OP Swim has a promising lineup, and I believe we can improve on last year’s performance. With team captains like Henry Crowther, Charlie Kline, and Paul Knecht, we have strong leaders pushing us to reach our full potential.
While senior swimmers contribute the majority of points overall, this year we have some promising younger athletes stepping up. Jonathan Peterson and Luke Gardner are both known for their powerful strength in freestyle. Ian Kehoe and Dylan Guilcapi, thrive in butterfly, while William Kulikowski consistently scores in the 200 IM. Ronan Hamon and Shalen Sternberg, specialize in breaststroke with Brice Spreemen, one of our top sprinters, rounding out the top group. With all of these outstanding swimmers, OP will be ready to compete against other high schools.
Although we’ve lost key swimmers like Conor Heffernan and Louis Cueva, our athletes’ dedication, (especially with 6 AM practices) is sure to lead to success. We also have an exciting new meet against Delbarton, where we aim to prove ourselves as the top prep school. With the experience and guidance of Coach Bradley and Coach Kate, the Rams are bound for another successful season.
