About one year ago I wrote an article discussing my top 5 Christmas movies. Today, I’m doing the updated list.
- A Charlie Brown Christmas: A Charlie Brown Christmas has moved from the honorable mentions part of my list into the Top 5. The film stands out due to its simplicity and emotional depth. It offers a simple and heartfelt message about the true meaning of Christmas. The short film focuses on Charlie Brown’s understanding of Christmas. From being disillusioned with the materialistic nature of the holiday to understanding its true meaning. It is further enhanced by a colorful animation style and an iconic score by Vince Guaraldi.
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation: Making the list for the first time is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The film has a unique blend of slapstick comedy and fun chaotic moments. The film’s acting is well-done across the board and has an enjoyable Christmas feel.
- It’s a Wonderful Life: Moving down from the number one spot is It’s A Wonderful Life. Although I think this film is still great, it doesn’t have the comedic appeal or lighthearted Christmas tone as “Elf” or “Home Alone.” Even though it remains a classic, it doesn’t have the “fun” factor of those other films.
- Elf: “Elf” has become a holiday classic. Due to Will Ferrell’s hilarious performance as Buddy the Elf, the film is one of my favorites of all-time. The film is a true comedy where Ferrell shines the most. Its lighthearted tone paired with great performances make it a top notch Christmas movie.
- Home Alone: Originally at number 3 on my list a year ago, Home Alone has moved up to the one spot. The film is a holiday classic that has stood the test of time. Its perfect blend of slapstick humor and uplifting moments make it the perfect Christmas movie. The film is enhanced by excellent performances across the board from Macaulay Caulkin to Joe Pesci. It moved to the top of my list due to its consistent appeal and timeless story.
