- Frosty The Snowman
Coming in at number 10, we have Frosty The Snowman. A timeless classic that is played across the world during the holiday season. A short but sweet TV special that demonstrates the importance of friendship and forgiveness. Overall, I give this movie a 6.3/10. The themes are important and give a good lesson to kids in a subtle and not obvious way, but in the end it is a TV special and not a movie and for that I have to take a few points.
- Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer
Next, at number 9, we got Rudolph. Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer is also a Christmas classic. Released in 1964, it has truly stood the test of time. In the movie, we learn valuable lessons such as not letting others define your value. Overall, we rank the movie a 6.5/10. The lessons learned are very important, however, the movies following are a bit better. Therefore it is ranked at number 9.
- The Santa Clause
The Santa Clause comes in at number 8. Tim Allen is a great depiction of the dad and Santa role. I think the best part of this movie is the plot. It keeps you on your toes the whole way and has some great humor mixed throughout. My personal favorite part is when he takes his son to Christmas dinner at Denny’s. Overall, it is a great movie and can be shown for many more years. I would rate this movie a solid 7/10.
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
With number seven, we have How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Another classic that makes its way onto the list. One of Dr. Seuess’s top-selling stories, this animated TV special was instantly a Christmas classic. Displaying themes of friends and looking for the good in people, this movie deserves a 7.1/10. It has great value but compared to its modern counterparts it just can’t keep up and for that it gets this score.
- A Christmas Carol (Disney)
At number six we have yet another classic, A Christmas Carol. Throughout the years, there have been multiple variations of this classic story but today we are rating the Disney version. The Disney version has Donald Duck as Scrooge and the story is filled with lessons of sharing and charity. The Disney version keeps a dramatic story with heavy subjects nice and light-hearted. Overall, I’m rating this movie a solid 7.5/10. It’s a great holiday movie and great for all ages.
- Polar Express
Starting off the top 5, we have the Polar Express. This has always been one of my favorite movies for the Christmas season. The mystery in the train and the destination make it such a great movie. There is all of the buildup and rising action before they finally arrive at the North Pole. This movie earns the first rating over 8 with an 8.2/10. I highly recommend this movie as it truly employs the meaning of Christmas.
- The Nightmare Before Christmas
With a bit of a controversial pick, we have The Nightmare Before Christmas. Many believe this to be a Halloween movie but in our hearts, this is a Halloween AND Christmas movie. Jack Skellington goes on a journey of self-discovery with his love interest Sally to save Christmas, this story has plenty of twists. With themes of self-appreciation and love, this movie is great for the entire family. I give this movie an 8.7/10, it’s a fantastic multi-holiday movie that is greatly underappreciated during the Christmas season.
- National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Coming in at number 3, we have one of the funniest Christmas movies of all time. Clark Griswold wants to create the perfect family Christmas. However, it is harder than he thinks. Christmas Vacation is one of those timeless classics you can watch again and again because it’s just that funny. Overall, I would rate this movie a 9.5/10. It is a great movie that keeps the holiday spirit alive.
- Home Alone
At number two, we have a movie that all kids can relate to. We have Home Alone as runner-up on our list with a story of a very responsible kid who takes on some burglars on Christmas. Themes of stranger danger and trust ring out through the movie reinforcing good lessons for kids under the haze of a fun holiday movie. For all the great holiday spirit and great lessons, this movie gets a 9.7/10.
- Elf
In first place, we have the best Christmas movie in the world– Elf. Another Will Ferrell banger, this instant classic is filled with lighthearted fun and can make anyone laugh. The story of an adult elf traveling to New York and finding his family sounds crazy weird but Jon Favreau pulls it off in an amazing way. This movie gets a big 10/10.
