Over winter break, OP winter track had two meets where they put up countless personal records, school records, and historic placements.
On December 30th, the team headed out to the Ocean Breeze facility in Staten Island for the NJCTC Winter Relays Championship, where they set 4 new school records and medals in 4 relays. Our Varsity Distance Medley Relay team (Connor Bassolino, Aidan O’Dowd, James Nolan, Declan Kelly) ran a combined 10:39.46, which not only finished first, but was a new school record, has them 5th in NJ, and currently 13th in the country. Varsity Shuttle Hurdles (Charlie Spiegle, Flynn Brezee, Ryan Santoriello, Caden Breault) broke the school record by running a 34.93, as did the Varsity 4×200 (Zade Nassoura, Emmanuel Canuto, Charlie Spiegle, Brody Sheehan) with a 1:36.89. Other major finishes came from the field events with three 2nd place finishes, Varsity Shot Put (Joey Demarco, James Martin, Tremayne Quarrie), Freshman Shot Put (Logan Concepcion, Logan Milan, Christian O’Keefe), and Varsity Long Jump (Brody Sheehan, Lucas Costa). To end the meet, Lucas Costa took the school record in Triple Jump with a 40 ft-9in.
On January 4th, the team kicked off the new year at the Jersey City Armory for the Union County Relay Championship. Here, the team finished 3rd, best in Oratory history, and took 2 more school records. Varsity Shuttle Hurdles (Charlie Spiegle, Flynn Brezee, Ryan Santoriello, Caden Breault) came back and broke their own record with a 34.29s finish, as did Varsity 4×200 (Zade Nassoura, Emmanuel Canuto, Charlie Spiegle, Brody Sheehan) with a 1:36.77. The Varsity Sprint Medley Relay (Charlie Spiegle, Brody Sheehan, James Nolan, Declan Kelly) finished first in the meet and is currently ranked 16th in the state and 36th in the nation. The Varsity Distance Medley Relay (Connor Bassolino, ASidan O’Dowd, James Nolan, Declan Kelly) finished second at the meet, and the shot put relay (Joey DeMarco, James Martin, Tremayne Quarrie) finished 3rd.
The team put up some incredible performances against good competition at these two meets, and they’re just getting started. Keep an eye out for their upcoming state meet on the 15th where they hope to put up even more record-breaking performances against some of the best teams in the state.
