On January 15, Oratory Prep’s Indoor track team traveled to the Bennett Center in Toms River to compete against some of the state’s top competitors in the Non-Public A Relay Championship. The Rams have been working hard all winter in preparation for big championship meets, running in frigid temperatures to achieve their ambitious goals.
The day started off with Charlie Spiegle, Flynn Brezee, Ryan Santoriello, and Caden Breault running 33.8 seconds in the Shuttle Hurdles. This group set the school record in this event for the third consecutive time. Expect this dominant squad to consistently improve their time as the season progresses. While this may seem like an unusual accomplishment, this was not the only school record set on Wednesday. The Sprint Medley Relay team (pictured above) consisting of James Nolan, Charlie Spiegle, Brody Sheehan, and Declan Kelly also set a school record of 3:38. More importantly, they won the SMR state title, beating out traditional running powerhouses like CBA, St. Peter’s Prep, and Delbarton. This performance also punched their ticket to Indoor Nationals later this season.
Next up was the Distance Medley Relay, run by Aidan Murphy, Zade Nassoura, Jack Ebert, and Connor Bassolino. The Rams finished fifth in this race while competing against a loaded field. To cap off the day, the Rams finished 6th in the shot put relay, by Tremanye Quarrie, and Franklin & Marshall commit James Martin. The Rams High Jump Relay also came in sixth, with Caden Breault and Kingston Nnadi. While these accomplishments are significant, the Rams are not at all satisfied yet. With more than half the season still remaining, expect big things from not only this varsity squad but also some underclassmen who have what it takes to step up. Don’t be surprised if more records fall as the season progresses, and the Rams continue to perform at the highest level.
