One of the most anticipated TV shows of the year has returned: Severance. The Apple TV show returned on January 17 with its first episode. It’s already debuted to strong reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with a 97% critics score and an 84% audience score in its first two episodes. Virtually all of the first season’s cast has returned. The show stars Adam Scott, a well-known actor from his time in Parks and Recreation, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, John Turturro, and Tramell Tillman. It picks up a few months after the ending of Season 1. So far, Severance has been quite entertaining. There’s a few elements to this. Firstly, the acting has been great. Adam Scott plays his role very well. Although less well-known than some other names, Britt Lower is great, as is Zach Cherry. However, the show also boasts some bigger names including John Turturro and Christopher Walken. Overall, there’s been a solid chemistry between the different characters which has made the show more engaging. Severance has also recaptured the interesting mystery element of a show like Lost. However, the creator of the show, Dan Erickson, has assured people that the building of the mystery will pay off for fans. There’s so many different layers to the things that are happening in the show that it keeps you guessing each and every episode. This is one of my favorite parts of the show: are we being thrown off or not? Additionally, Season 2 has expanded into new areas. Whereas most of Season 1 took place in a limited amount of locations, Season 2 has expanded its filming to far more places. Since the plot and characters were established in the first season, the second season is able to build on that foundation and become weirder, more interesting, and more intense. Overall, I’d recommend checking out Severance. If you really want to enjoy the show then I might even wait until it’s fully out so you can watch both seasons in their entirety. The worst part of the show is that we don’t have enough.
