The PGA golf season is in full swing. This week starts the stretch of major tournaments and signature events. This week is the Players Championship. This is one of my favorite tournaments of the year, mostly because I am a huge fan of TPC Sawgrass. In this article, we are going to fully break down all the storylines going into the tournament.
The Storylines to Watch
Scottie Scheffler: Three-Peat?
Scottie Scheffler has been on a historic tear, winning back-to-back Players Championships in 2023 and 2024. He’s got the ball-striking, the poise, and the confidence. No one’s ever had a three-peat. Can Scheffler break through for his first victory of the year?
Rory McIlroy: Can he stay hot?
McIlroy won the tournament in 2019 and has had some good results since. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and is currently playing well. However, everyone knows that Rory has had a recent history of choking in the big spot. Can he do it?
Ludvig Åberg: The Future is Now
The Swedish sensation has all the tools: length, precision, and ice in his veins. The Players would be a massive statement win, even though he already won the Genesis Open just a few weeks ago.
A little bit about TPC Sawgrass
The closing set of holes at TPC Sawgrass is arguably the most famous stretch in golf.
Hole 16 (Par 5): A risk-reward beauty. Eagles happen, but so do water balls.
Hole 17 (Par 3): The Island Green. The most nerve-wracking 137 yards in golf. One of the most famous holes in golf
Hole 18 (Par 4): Water left, trees right, fairway will slope towards the water.
Prediction: Who Takes It?
Luke: I predict that Scottie Scheffler will win. The world number one is due for his first win of the season, and I believe that this will be the one.
Kevin: I believe that Colin Morikawa will come out on top. He was on the brink of victory last week at the Arnold Palmer and always seems to be in the mix in these big tournaments.
