With the 2025 MLB season kicking off tomorrow, the New York Mets have a bright future ahead. After some key off-season signings, most notably the headline that broke sports, Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765 million deal, the Mets are hopeful that they will surpass their 2024 season NLCS run and make the World Series. Last year, the Mets started 0-5, and fans were expecting yet another disappointing season where they would miss the playoffs. In fact, on June 3rd, they were the third-worst team in the NL. After a surprising turnaround around they just snuck into the playoffs on the last day of the season and ended up upsetting the Brewers in the wild Card and the NL East champion Phillies in the NLDS. They fell short against a stacked Dodgers lineup in the NLCS, but needless to say, no one was expecting that.
Other than Soto, they re-signed former NL rookie of the year Pete Alonso, and signed Yankees reliever Clay Holmes. Their offense is looking stacked this year with MVP runner-up Francisco Lindor, Alonso, Soto, breakout star Mark Vientos, and other strong bats to complement their lineup. Their pitching is what may potentially hold them back, ace Kodai Senga struggling to stay healthy, and Clay Holmes, who still has to prove himself as a starting pitcher. Despite their lack of a starting rotation, their bullpen is looking solid, and MLB expects them to make a deep run. They are predicted to finish top 2 in the NL East, because the Phillies’ lineup is staying almost the same. As long as they manage to stay healthy, the 2025 season should be a good one for the Mets.
