Oratory Prep baseball sat at 6-3 as well as being 2-1 in Watchung Division play coming into their matchup against cross-town rival Summit. The Rams set fire to the game in the top half of the game by loading the bases all with one out. Caden Breault started his at bat down 0-2 in the count, but with some tenacious fighting worked the count back into his favor at 3-2. The senior captain then proceeded to hit a 2 RBI double to put the Rams in front 2-0. Freshman, Vincenzo “Ace” Luaces recored his first varsity hit with a 2 RBI double to make the Rams lead 4-0. On the hill for the Rams was their junior ace, Thomas Albanito, who was just coming off a dominant performance against Dayton. In the bottom half of the first the Hilltoppers were able to come away with 1 run before Albanito was able to escape trouble. The game remained scoreless until the bottom half of the third inning, where Summit crept right back into the game. The Hilltoppers recored a 2 out 2 RBI single to cut their deficit to just 1 run. After Albanito was able to escape yet again the Rams proceeded to add back to their lead with a Devon Mulvaney single. In the seventh it was Blake Duddy that gave the Rams insurance before Caden Breault did the same to add to his 3 RBI day. Albanito finished his line with 6 innings pitched, allowing 3 runs, while recording 4 k’s. Caden Breault earned the save in the game to finalize the game at 8-4 in favor of Oratory Prep. Other key nods to hand out included Logan Costello with a multi hit game and a run as well as Ben Gaffney recording two crucial runs. Thomas Albanito was named Big State Sports’ “Player of the Game” with a stellar performance that led the Rams to victory and a 7-3 record. The Rams play Union in their next game on Friday, looking to improve to 5-1 in Mountain Division play.
